Our client, a major tourist attraction that displays the waxworks of famous and historical figures, has an immediate need for a Wax Figure Finishing Artist who will play a key role in the polished appearance and presentation of the wax figures on the show floor. In this role, the Wax Finishing Artist will have a sharp eye for detail and exceptional technical and finishing skills to maintain the appearance and integrity of the wax figures. This includes the proper sanding, patching, and painting to create a seamless finish as needed. The Wax Finishing Artist will also be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of costumes, costume changes, and overall maintenance of high show standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Regularly inspect show floor to survey any damage to wax figures.
- Immediately correct minor hair and costume issues while on show floor.
- Remove figures from show floor to repair scratches, broken fingers, or other damage in on-site workshop.
- Responsible for maintaining inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Make recommendations about figure pairings, costumes, hairstyles, painting, and lighting that contribute to showcasing the figures and the overall quality of the museum’s collection.
Qualifications
- 3+ years as a Finishing Artist in theming, scenic, prop or set fields.
- Experienced with a variety of painting materials and techniques to achieve the desired effect.
- The ability to create seamless finishes.
- A strong familiarity with a variety of paint techniques.
- An excellent eye for color matching.
- Skills in sculpting, mold making, sewing or fabrication preferred.
- Knowledge of corrective and fashion make-up.
- Airbrush skills.
- Knowledge and experience with power and hand tools.
- Life casting and mold-making skills using alginate and silicon mold-making materials preferred.
- Fiberglass fabrication skills preferred.
- Average or better sculpting skills preferred.
- Experience in prosthetics preferred.
- Fashion / clothing knowledge and hair care / styling skills preferred.
This is a full time, on-site position located in Los Angeles, is in the $25 – $30 an hour range, and comes with an exceptional benefits package and bonus incentives.
