11thr Earth Day Tips

Happy Earth Day to everyone from Eleventh Hour.  Every single individual can make small changes in their daily routines to help improving our environmental concerns.   People including myself, seek out excuses for reasons we are not living a greener lifestyle.  Although these excuses are usually based on time, convenience or money, Josh Dorfman is trying to change our ways.

Josh is the spokesman for lazy environmentalists everywhere around the world.  In his most recent book, “The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget,” Dorfman compiles his favorite ways to be easier on our environment without spending an arm and a leg.

I’ve taken Josh’s top 11 ideas to a greener life:

  • Get your magazines digitallyZinio.com offers versions of more than 500 magazines digitally for your computer or iPhone.  Zinio is also offering a free one-year trial to test their service.
  • Use natural cleaning productsGreen Works natural cleaning products consist of plant-based, biodegradable ingredients like corn, coconut and lemon.
  • Use a remote-control power strip — Eight-outlet power strips with remote control device by The Belkin Conserve, easily turn off complete power of electronics — saving you energy, money and your back.
  • Use a car-share service to drive without owning — Thanks to Zipcar a member can reserve local cars around a city for an hourly fee (normally between $10.50 and $16.50).
  • Ride share to get where you want to go — A ride share service is an option for those looking to save on owning a car or keeping less cars on the road.  Zimride is a service that allows users to create profiles and find ride mates.
  • Choose filtered water over bottled water — Making this switch can save more than 38 billion disposable plastic bottles a year.  Brita pitchers are still the sensible choice.
  • Use reusable water bottles — One you’ve purchased your Brita, find a safe and eco-friendly option such as Nalgene, Sigg or Klean Kanteen.
  • Purchase refurbished electronics — Buying refurbished electronics is a win-win situation because you are saving money and reducing e-waste heading to landfills.
  • Conserve water and energy with low-flow showerheads — a series of water saving showerheads by Evolve let the cold water flow until the temperature reached 95 degrees.  The hot water doesn’t release until you turn the showerhead’s valve.
  • Shave with just seven drops — Pacific Shaving Oil, enhanced will essential oils, will keep you free of shaving cream and give you the closest shave of your life.
  • CDs, DVDs and books: Swap, don’t buy — Swapping sites such as Swapacd.com, Swapadvd.com and Paperbackswap.com allow you to access thousands of titles at a cheaper price.

Matt Suttner was born on Earth Day so he has no excuses when it comes to following through.
