Marvels joins forces with Harley and O.C. Choppers

Marvels Entertainment is spreading its wings with the success of Spider-man and Iron Man and has agreed to team up with Harley-Davidson, Orange County Choppers and Feld Motor Sports’ Monster Jam for its newest marketing adventure.

Marvel’s mission is to connect with new demographics who may have knowledge of the numerous super heroes characters by pairing them with other familiar products.  With the economic issues still prevalent, many companies are searching for similar unique partnerships to widen their target audiences.

Harley-Davidson maybe reaching the farthest for a new audience by unveiling clothing and accessories for toddlers and infants.  Incorporating both their cycles and Marvel’s art and logos, the hope is to have the youth grow up with two brands being one.

Paul Teutul Sr., founder of Orange County Choppers could be cast as a hard-nosed Marvel  characters in the future but for now will settle for designing custom Marvel motorcycles.  The OCC followers are just another new group who could buy into Marvel now that the agreement has been made.

Spider-Man and the upcoming Iron Man 2 sequel will be the key players for Feld Motor Sports’ Monster Jam broadening the Marvel marketing movement beginning January 2010.  Because the Monster Jam is an event rather than a product, the long term success maybe up in the air.  In the short term, the exposure of Spider-Man and Iron Man monster trucks should get those fans from the Monster Jam and into the theaters.

Eleventh Hour and 11thr Production Services are big fans of Marvel Entertainment and will be keeping an eye on the benefits of their cross demographic marketing strategy.

Matt Suttner hopes Harley-Davidson and Marvel expand their line of clothing and develop adult footie pajamas that have an Incredible Hulk body likeness.

Job Interview Do’s and Don’ts

Eleventh Hour is in the business of finding amazing candidates for great job opportunities.  When arriving for an interview, before a word can be exchanged a perception is already formulated.  The goal as an interviewee should be to set the tone with a confident appearance, giving the interviewer the impression that you are going to knock the ball out of the park.  Below are some other tips from 11thr to think about before interviewing.

  • BE ON TIME! Some companies have parking issues either with specific parking instructions, street parking, visitor or valet parking options.  Figure out these obstacles ahead of time, possibly doing a practice drive the day before to make sure it will not be an issue the day of the interview.  Being late for an interview maybe the biggest blunder when interviewing and may put you in a hole you may not be able to dig yourself out of.  Arrive early so you can be relaxed when your interview time comes.
    ——————
  • When arriving to the office of your interview be ready to interview.  Please don’t arrive with sunglasses on, Bluetooth in ear or on a phone conversation.  These examples are unprofessional and should be put away or done with by the time you enter the office you are interviewing at.
    ——————
  • Here at Eleventh Hour we are unique.  We want to know the real YOU. Therefore when interviewing with us we ask you dress casual.  Show your individualism however try to  stay clear of holey jeans or outrageously loud outfits.  Your appearance may not be discussed in the interview but definitely noticed.
    ——————
  • Although you want to stand out in an interview you don’t want your scent to stand out.  Stay away from strong aftershaves, colognes or perfumes.  Some people are allergic to certain scents so keeping your fragrance to a bath soap maybe the best decision.
    ——————
  • As the Boy Scouts say, BE PREPARED!  Review in your head all the information and materials you need for the interview prior to your commute to the meeting.  Copies of your resume, a pen to take notes, possible paperwork to be filled out and research you had done about the company you are interviewing with so all be with you.  Make sure not to leave anything behind and have materials ready to go ahead of time.  To have paperwork with you and not completed show lack of preparedness.
    ——————
  • Once your are in the interview, BE YOURSELF!  Ultimately that is who the interviewer is looking to meet.  Some of the best interviews are ones where the meeting turns into a conversation rather than being a one-sided question and answer.  Let your personality shine, make great eye contact, mix in some smiles and show the interviewer you can back it up with you skills and prior experiences.
    ——————
  • When exiting an interview be sure to thank the interviewer for their time and ask for one of their business cards if they hadn’t already offered one to you.  Their card will allow you to have their contact information for following up on your interview and to have the companies address to send a thank you note for the opportunity.
    ——————
  • Leave the interviewer with a lasting impression of yourself.  Thank them once more and exit with a smile and a strong firm handshake.  The exit handshake, as simple as it seems, is best way to conclude an interview.  Firm handshakes display the confidence you want to exude as you depart.

Matt Suttner hopes this sets you up for success on your next interviewing adventure.

Columbus Day, yea or nay?

For many across the United States today, Columbus Day is being observed but not without controversy.  What was once taught in schools as a heroic story of “discovery” of a new land is now looked at as a tale best untold due to the brash treatment revealed by Columbus’ camp, five hundred seventeen years ago.

It seems that cities that once used to observe the second Monday of October as Columbus Day have either canceled the festivities or renamed the day to make it more appropriate.  Now the once holiday has been revised to: “Indigenous Peoples Day,” “Italian Heritage Day,” “Native American Day” or “Fall Weekend” (as Brown University students protest to change to).  Philadelphia along with Columbus, Ohio no longer recognize the day as in the past.

Denver which is home to the oldest Columbus Day parade, is one of the limited U.S. cities which still holds a yearly parade along with New York City.  Although the parade went on this past Saturday, in the days leading up to the celebration the opposition released a bogus announcement, saying Denver’s parade had been canceled.

Other than cultural celebration for Italian Americans, the day off for half of the U.S. is the only thing people are appreciating.  Time will tell if this ‘holiday’ will last or be put to the back burner due to the growing number of people that are resistant towards the actions of Mr. Christopher Columbus.

After reading fellow Eleventh Hour blogger Brian’s viral buzz from last Friday,  I am going to throw Columbus Day on the ground.  I’m an adult and I no longer think of Columbus’ story as the bubble gum version I was taught when I was young.

Matt Suttner is wondering who will be taking part in next year’s “Fall Weekend” celebration.

National Lampoons’ Matt Zaller bags Megan Fox

Eleventh Hour has came across some fun, yet kind of uneasy interviews with National Lampoon’s Matt Zaller.  In the first interview Zaller sits down with Megan Fox and Johnny Simmons, both starring in Jennifer’s Body, premiering this weekend.  Zaller’s approach in his interviews is very similar to Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns sketches.  Their dry, condescending monotone ways may be a turnoff to some but is right up my alley (Matt Suttner’s views do not represent those of 11thr).

With all the attention Meg Fox receives on a daily basis, Zaller gave her time to relax and made the skit a one-on-one conversation with Simmons.  See for yourself below.

The Imformant, starring Matt Damon is also premiering this weekend.  Zaller had a chance to sit down with Damon and proclaimed his bromance/stalker ways to him.  It’s worth a watch to see Damon’s patience slowly run out.

Matt Suttner is following in Zaller’s and Galifianakis’ style with his own celeb interview shorts on the shoreline bike trail titled, Cycling the Strand with Suttner.  Check your local listings for date and time.

Top 10 Things Not to Do as a Temp

As a temp, you should always remember that you are representing yourself, as well as the temp agency. You want to make a good first impression, and you need to realize that no matter how “normal” you are, regular full-time employees may still be looking at you as the “random temp.” So you don’t want to draw any negative attention to yourself and prove them right.

This is common sense for most people. Most likely, if you are continually getting temp work, you are well aware of how to act in a professional workplace…but there is always that small percentage. After all, the word “clueless” is a word for a reason.

Top Ten Things NOT to Do as a Temp:

10. Walk in the morning of your first day and give everybody in the office a flier for a big night club event you are promoting in Hollywood, and try to sell them hard on bottle service.

9. See if any of your temporary co-workers are interested in becoming their own boss by selling Amway.

8. Wear frayed jean shorts.

7. Make a lot of mistakes and joke after each one, “What are you going to do, fire me?”

6. Walk in the morning of your first day and give everybody in the office a flier for your hybrid, folk/hip-hop band’s performance at Hotel Cafe next month.

5. Tell somebody you are only doing this job because you heard “the co-eds at this office were easy.”

4. Talk about the latest episode of “To Catch a Predator,” and sympathize with the predators.

3. Jokingly ask for a raise…about 10 times a day.

2. Talk about how useless education is, and how pyramid schemes are the way to go these days if you want to build real wealth.

1. Work a temp job on your birthday, bring in your own cake, and send out a mass email to the company, announcing, “There’s a birthday party for Temp John Doe in the conference room at 4:00.”
