Around the Creative World (9/29/09)

Happy Two Days Before Halloween! I don’t know about you, but I do not have a costume ready. I’m not worried though. As long as I don’t do “Balloon Boy” (or “Box Boy”), I’m guaranteed originality.

Over/Under: 3 Million. The number of “Balloon Boy” costumes we’ll see Saturday night across the country. Any takers?

Here are the links…

Brian Laesch cannot stop thinking about the Bulls-Spurs game tonight on TNT. It has nothing to do with this blog, or his background as a writer.

11thr Sports Day Spectacular

For a Monday in early April, the sports news wire is beefed up thanks to the NCAA Men’s Basketball championship game this evening, MLB’s opening day, and also the announcement of Michael Jordan among the list of the 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame inductees.

  • Michigan State will try to use their home court advantage tonight against the explosive North Carolina Tar Heels in hopes of being named 2009 NCAA Men’s basketball champions.  Dick Vitale previews the heavyweight battle.

  • ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian’s looks at MLB opening day to get you ready for a long season ahead.

  • ESPN shows Michael Jordan’s influence on current NBA players:

True college fans will be looking forward to the ‘One Shining Moments’ montage, reliving the most memorable events of the NCAA tournament once championship game has concluded.  And now that the major league season has begun, you only have seven months to get out to see a game and buy some peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

Matt Suttner would like to congratulate those winning their office pools especially our 11thr winner Jeff, who squeaked out his first NCAA bracket championship.

Don’t “recruit” A-Rod to your team…

If A-Rod were to get kicked out of baseball for the latest news about his steroid use and came to the Eleventh Hour offices in Marina Del Rey looking for work, we would not accept his resume.  That’s the Eleventh Hour guarantee: We don’t take on former Major League Baseball players who are accused/confirmed users of steroids.  So, by reading this blog, you at least know that much about the quality of our candidates.  (But obviously there are other requirements that confirm their quality as well.)

Seriously though, how about this A-Rod news?  Are you kidding me?  First, Yankees fans mostly hate him, then leaves his wife for Madonna and now this: It’s confirmed that he took steroids in 2003.  Unbelievable.

Well, not unbelievable…but pretty pathetic.

Here is video of him lying to Katie Couric on 60 Minutes:

And here is video of him confessing on ESPN:

Alex Rodriguez.  No matter how many other Los Angeles-based recruitment agencies solicit his services, Eleventh Hour won’t be one of them.  That’s our guarantee.

When Roger Clemens came knocking on our door, looking for a graphic artist position, we turned him down.  (OK, this didn’t really happen…but it would be pretty weird if it did.)

Brian Laesch has just become completely jaded by baseball…until next season starts.
